A few short months ago, Covergirl made waves when it welcomed James Charles to be its first-ever male face. The makeup artist and social media celebrity was more than happy to be featured on the cover of Covergirl, as well as star in an advertisement by the company. Those in support of gender equality, as well, were flattered to have a male figure finally receive such an honor.

Now, Maybelline is following in Covergirl’s footsteps by signing on another wildly popular “beauty boy,” Manny Gutierrez. The blogger has 3 million followers on Instagram and 2 million subscribers on YouTube. Though his channel was started in July 2014, videos of his makeup tutorials have already racked up 91 million views

Gutierrez stars in the cosmetic company’s “That Boss Life” campaign which promotes Big Shot Mascara. He appears alongside beauty blogger Shayla Mitchell and sweepstakes winner Jackie Flowers, relays Cosmopolitan.

“Honestly I couldn’t be more honored [or] thrilled!,” Manny wrote on Instagram, “Thank you to Maybelline for taking a chance on me!”

There are dozens of double standards when it comes to men and women in modern-day society. Whereas women can wear baggy pants and self-identify as tomboys, guys who paint their nails or who excel at applying makeup are often scrutinized by individuals who oppose LGBTQ+ rights. By debuting its first-ever male ambassador, Maybelline is helping to put an end gender discrimination.

As a child, I would watch my mom get ready for work and just sit there for hours watching her transform,” says Manny.

“However, it wasn’t until much later on that I really started to dabble in makeup myself.”
